Vancity Chess Sectional
Play one round of CFC rated slow chess each week for five weeks with players at your skill level! Players will be split into groups of 6 and play every player within their group over 5 rounds.

Dates: Every Thursday from January 26 - February 23 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. PDT

Free parking is available on the street or in the school parking lot.
Rounds: 5 rounds Round Robin format (Swiss format for groups with more than 6 players if number of players isn't divisible by 6)
- Round 1 at 7:00 p.m. on January 26
- Round 2 at 7:00 p.m. on February 2
- Round 3 at 7:00 p.m. on February 9
- Round 4 at 7:00 p.m. on February 16
- Round 5 at 7:00 p.m. on February 23
Time format: 60 min + 10 sec/move increment
Rated: CFC Regular Rated
Sections: 6 players per section grouped based on closest CFC rating. Sections will be made after registration closes. Some groups may have more than 6 players if the total number of players isn't divisible by 6.
No byes or withdrawing allowed. Since this is a sectional tournament, if you take a bye or withdraw, it means your opponent in your group will have no one to play that week.

The CFC (Canadian Chess Federation) represents Canada to the world as a member of FIDE, the international chess body. As a CFC member, you have access to all CFC rated events across Canada, and will obtain national CFC chess ratings.
There are two types of CFC ratings: Regular, and Quick. Long story short, all tournaments with long games (60+ min per player) use your CFC regular rating. Tournaments with shorter games (< 60 min per player) use your CFC quick rating. They are different ratings and do NOT overlap.

Policies
Refunds
- You may request a full refund before January 23 at 5PM PST.
Byes
- NO BYES OR WITHDRAWING are allowed. Since this is a sectional tournament, if you take a bye or withdraw, that means your opponent will have no one to play for that week.
Playing Area
- No food in the playing area
- Photos are allowed for the first 5 minutes of each round, but please be discrete and respectful to not disturb players
- Silence is required in the playing area while games are in progress
- All electronics capable of making noise, communicating, or playing chess must be powered fully off while playing
Tiebreaks
- Prize money split evenly among everyone tied
- Tiebreak for non-cash prizes decided by:
- Head-to-head score of tied players
- Cumulative score of opponents (opens new window)
- Armageddon Blitz (opens new window) 5|4
